The Scottish Clan MacIntyre
The Wright family are actually MacIntyres (and not a sept or sect  thereof as some think)
In Gaelic, known as  Mac an t-Saoir (son of the carpenter)  -
Wright is an  "English-ification" of the name MacIntyre.

I also found the following which I thought was interesting:

Did you know that Jesus is known as "mac-an-t-saoir" in the
Gaelic translation of the Bible? Matthew 13:55 in English and Gaelic:

English:  "Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary?
And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?"

Gaelic: "Nach e so mac an t-saoir? Nach e ainm a mhathar Muire? Nach iad a
bhraithrean Seumas, agus Ioses, agus Simon agus Iudas?"

Well,  I thought it was interesting anyway....

For the Cherokee blood that comprises a fair percentage of my own blood.

Well you made it, I see!

This is the official
W.Va. Bari Sax Man's Web Page.

This is me with my baritone sax 05/23/2003.

This is my "partner in crime" - Schatzi.

I am into tattoos and have two of them so far - both on my right arm:

I'm planning on getting at least 2 more.  One will be a picture
of my baritone sax, and I haven't decided what else I want to have done.

The next two pictures are of The Maranatha Praise & Worship Band that I play saxophone in.
In the 1st picture that's me that you can see just past the singer (I'm the bald headed guy).
In the 2nd picture that's me on the end of the stage.
The pictures aren't that great, but I didn't take them so I didn't any control over the quality.

I jokingly refer to myself as "The Other West Virginia Bari Sax Man"
Personal note: My friend Rick Veres of Big Planet Soul is THE "West Virgina Bari Sax Man"

Stephen "Doc" Kupka who plays baritone sax for Tower of Power is my all-time favorite baritone saxophone player.

I am 47 years old and live on a farm of approximately 25 acres outside of South Charleston, WV.
My family includes me, my wife Melody (appropriate name for a musician's wife, huh?)
and my 2 step-daughters Meggan and Gennie.
Personal web pages for my wife and step-daughters will be available soon.

We have many animals including more than a dozen miniature horses (they only get 34" tall or less at the shoulder) - several dogs - chickens, ducks, geese, and an old goat - well maybe two old goats if you count me hehehe...

I am a Christian and a member of The Maranatha Fellowship Chuch in St. Albans, WV
where I play baritone (bari) saxophone, tenor saxophone, alto saxophone and occasionally trombone in their Praise & Worship Band.

I am a retired/disabled truck driver with more than 25 years experience behind me and over 2,000,000 miles logged with no at-fault accidents.  I pulled tankers most of the time I drove trucks and hauled dangerous cargo including propane gas, chemicals, gasoline and diesel fuel.  I had to take medical retirement in 1998 due to an old back injury.  A disk in my lumbar spine finally herniated or 'blew out'.

After spending most of my life fighting a weight problem, Dr. Daniel Stickler preformed Roux-en-y gastric bypass weight loss surgery on me October 14, 2002.  At the time of my surgery I had reached a weight of 450 lbs.
So far (as of August 5,2003) I am down to 287 lbs and am hoping to lose about another 25-35 lbs.  More information on this surgery can be found at my doctor's website:

Me in October, 2002 at 450 lbs.                    Me in Aug. 2003 at 287 lbs.
                                                       (And climbing!)                                                      (And still falling!)

(well - that IS one of the side-effects of my surgery - hehehe)

My interests and hobbies include handguns, rifles and shotguns, hunting, fishing, O gauge model railroading, music (from both the
listener and musician ends).

My favorite instrument is my baritone saxophone or 'bari sax'.  My saxes are:  A Cannonball  B1-B Big Bell Series baritone sax.  It is finished entirely in all black nickel.  In a word, it is beautiful.  I use a Berg Larson 120/0 mouthpiece with Rico PlastiCover reeds.   I also own and play a Cannonball T1-B Big Bell Series tenor saxophone and a Cannonball A1-B Big Bell Series alto saxophone which are both all black nickel.   I am considered by Cannonball Musical Instruments to be one of their Cannonball Endorsing Artists, which I consider to be an honor.

I still have my first saxophone that my Mom and Dad got for me when I was in the 2nd grade back in about 1963 or 1964 - a LeBlanc Vito alto sax which still plays very well, although most of the lacquered finish is gone from it which I think gives the horn some character.  I played that same alto sax in South Charleston Junior High School band myself back in 1969-1971 under the direction of (now retired) band director Jim Pate.  I also own a vintage Selmer tenor saxophone which was made in 1957.  It is an awesome horn which still plays and looks great.  In addition to my love for saxophones, I also play trombone and 6 string guitar and am working on teaching myself to play the fiddle and drums.

Three years ago I started my oldest step-daughter Gennie playing saxophone.  She stayed with it 2 years and decided (I assume) that music wasn't her thing so she put the sax down, so last year I taught my youngest step-daughter Meggan to play saxophone, and she is now playing my old Selmer tenor sax in the South Charleston Middle School (which used to be South Charleston Jr. High School) band (and doing very with it I might add :-)   ).

My tastes in music are eclectic and include some modern rock and progressive rock, although Soul, Blues and R&B are my favorites.   I HATE Hip-Hop & Rap music!  I also like Classic Rock, Southern Gospel, some Contemporary Gospel, and some traditional Hillbilly type banjo/guitar/fiddle/mandolin music, although I'm NOT a fan of modern country music at all.  My favorite group is Tower of Power and I'm also a big fan of the local Charleston, WV band Big Planet Soul, which in my opinion is the biggest collection of local talent in the state.  They're also personal friends of mine and a great bunch of guys!

"I Still Be Diggin' On James Brown"

By Tower of Power 's
Stephen "Doc" Kupka and Emillio Castillo

(One of my all-time favorite songs)

                    1)  I been through all them changes

A lot a stuff came down
I dealt with all the issues
You might say I been around

But back when I got started
                                there was a rightous sound
It doesn't matter what I been through
I still be diggin' on James Brown

                           Chorus
You know the more things change
the more they stay the same
It may be a different age
but i'm on the same page

Cause one thing that I found
I still be diggin' on James Brown

                           2)  I had an attitude adjustment
                                I did some psychotherapy
I helped myself to some self help
                                I dabbled in some ESP

Though my world is ever changing
and I move from town to town
It doesn't matter where I been to
I still be diggin' on James Brown

                           Chorus

                           3)  You got your rap and your disco
                                You got your drum machines
                                You got your R-rated gangsta
                                You got your grungy scenes

You got your state of the art
                                You got your digital sound
It doesn't matter where it's going to
I still be diggin on James Brown.

                           Bridge
                           Take it to the bridge
it'll get you where you live
                           When there's water all around
you can still get out of town

And still be diggin on James Brown

                           Chorus

I still be diggin on James Brown

Are you hip?

If not, shame on you!
